  • Crackerjack Visual Thinking helping to communicate the future of project management at Rolls Royce

Crackerjack is working with Rolls Royce at their Derby HQ to help them communicate their future approach to project and programme management.

    Rolls Royce

Crackerjack spent a day with the Rolls Royce ‘Civils’ Project Management (PM) team learning about their new project management operating model and translating this into a one-page visual overview for on-going engagement and communication activities.

The visual was hand-drawn on an iPad which enabled ideas and design sketches to be shared in real-time to onsite and offsite members of the team for discussion and iteration on the day of our visit.

The finalised visual was then used immediately to drive discussion about future ways of working across the PM teams and is due to play a large role in an PM team conference this week.

  • How a #graphicrecording created in 2015 continues to provide on-going value for the Institute of Quarrying (IQ) today…

Pleased to be able to share this feedback from Sarah Fry of the Institute of Quarrying (IQ) about the long-term value she has received from a graphic recording Crackerjack created  back in 2015:

In 2015 when we were planning our conference, we wanted to do something different.  Something that delegates would remember and something that we could use after the delegates had all gone.  We found Crackerjack and loved Johns engaging style of capturing concepts and ideas in a visually engaging way and knew this would give us what we were looking for.

During the conference John was an integral part of the event.  Live drawing became a feature of the conference and the resulting 3m x 1m landscape was a colourful representation of the key points made that industry should focus on.

Afterwards with the landscape duly scanned into a digital image, we could easily share the conference outputs with delegates and our wider audiences.  It was immediately used on social and during 2016 was integrated into other marketing and communication activities.  Because the design was adaptable, we could use the graphic in full or in sections to focus on key points we wanted to talk about.

Fast forward to the end of 2017.  We were having a tidy up in the office and found the original landscape drawing John created at our 2015 conference.  The digital version had worked hard for us but there was still something exciting about seeing the original artwork again.  Too good to simply discard and the concepts and issues captured are still relevant to the industry so we decided to get it framed to hang in our meeting room.

Due to its size we had to cut it into 3 different frames.  It certainly makes an impact!  The graphic is still a great talking point and a valuable device that helps us to engage our members and other visitors about what IQ is all about and how we support the quarrying industry.”

Hand-drawn animation used to visualise #goodhydration key messages for Oxford Patient Safety #communicate #engage #NHS

Crackerjack recently spent some time with Oxford Medical Illustration (@OMINHS) to develop six short videos for Oxford Patient Safety featuring our hand-drawn animations on the theme of ensuring elderly patients receive good hydration throughout their time in care and rehabilitation.

    Good Hydration Animation

The benefits of good hydration are well researched and documented and the video provides an overview of the key ways in which patient hydration can be encouraged and integrated into patients daily care routines.

Hand-drawn animation provides another method of reinforcing key messages in a way that is memorable and engages the audience. To find out more, please CONTACT US

Great afternoon facilitating an event for Travis Perkins PLC #communicate #engage

    TP 11th June 2018

Really enjoyed designing and facilitating an event for Travis Perkins PLC yesterday. The outputs from the event will be used for a variety of purposes including helping me design a rich picture showing the benefits to internal and external customers of a new system being launched in the coming months.

This has been a really collaborative piece of work so far and I’ve enjoyed working with my client to develop yesterdays session and plan for the next steps of our work together.

Getting ready to turn an #idea into a #richpicture

This is the exciting part of many of my projects: the initial design stage.

I’ve met with my client, understood what they want to communicate and who they want to engage with through the finalised rich picture I will produce. Now it’s time to turn the initial idea into the finished product!

    Time to get creating!

Great workshop design session with my @TP_plc (Travis Perkins) client in readiness for an event next month. We met at the @SaintsRugby ground in Northampton (the venue for the event) and worked together to create a visual and interactive session that will achieve my clients objectives during and after the event. Looking forward to facilitating the event! #graphicfacilitation #engage

  • “An idea that remains trapped in your head serves no purpose” #visualthinking #communicate

“An idea that remains trapped in your head serves no purpose” #visualthinking #communicate

An idea that remains trapped in your head serves no purpose.

The above is rather a blunt statement – but is intrinsically true.

If you have a great idea but are not able to articulate it to others or implement it by yourself, then nothing will have been gained by having an idea that could have been the ‘next big thing’!

That’s why helping people find ways of unlocking their thinking and then sharing this with others is so critical to all organisations.

    Unlock head

In my experience, helping people visualise their thinking through sketches, diagrams and doodles (either by encouraging them to do this themselves or capturing their thinking for them) helps them focus their thinking, experiment more freely with their ideas and find ways to more easily explain their ideas to others.

The creativity of the visualisation process adds a new dynamic and energy that cannot usually be achieved through simply talking about an idea.

So, why not get your teams to visualise their thinking at your next team meeting and see what great ideas can be released from your teams heads!
